Singapore-based fine artist. Founder of Hues by Arpita and Halvi Collective. Painter of golden hours, tropical lagoons, and quiet night skies — and, since 2024, teacher of the children, parents and adults who walk into the studio at 261 River Valley to paint here too.
From Data Analyst to Full-Time Artist
I'm Arpita Das, the artist behind Hues by Arpita. I'm a Singapore-based fine artist originally from Dibrugarh, Assam — a region in Northeast India defined by the Brahmaputra river, rolling tea gardens, and the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. Those landscapes were the first hues I ever knew, and they still shape every painting I make.
For years, I worked as a data analyst in advertising and media, believing art wasn't a practical career. When the pandemic brought the world to a standstill, I picked up a brush again and discovered that the only thing standing between me and a creative life had never been practicality — it was fear. Hues by Arpita is what I built on the other side of that realisation: a quiet, working studio that sells originals, takes commissions, and now opens its doors to children and adults who want to paint here too.
What I Paint
My work is rooted in landscapes and seascapes. Sunsets over rocky coastlines, turquoise tropical lagoons, waterfalls hidden in green valleys, and the quiet drama of a night sky. The golden hour appears throughout my collection — not merely as a lighting condition, but as a philosophy: a reminder that transitions hold their own beauty, and that endings always carry the promise of something new.
I work across acrylic, oil, watercolour, and mixed media. The style is bold and expressive, with rich colour and visible, textured brushwork that gives each canvas a sense of movement and energy.
The Studio
Hues by Arpita is a small home studio at 261 River Valley Road, Singapore 238307 — a sunlit space with marble floors, rattan shelving lined with art books, a gallery wall of originals, and a long oak table that transforms from painting station to workshop stage depending on the day. It is where every original is painted, where commissions are mixed and finished, and where a small number of children, parents and adults come each month to spend a few unhurried hours making something with their hands.
The two photos above give you a glimpse: Arpita beside a freshly finished seascape, and the table dressed for a Sip & Paint session — mini easels at each seat, fresh orchids in the centre, and all materials waiting so guests arrive to a ready canvas.
Workshops, Camps & Teaching
Three things happen at the studio besides painting. The Summer Art Camp 2026 runs from 8 to 26 June for children aged four to ten, in two age-specific batches of five children each — a quiet, materials-included alternative to the noisier holiday programmes. The Sip & Paint Afternoon is a recurring beginners' workshop for adults, capped at six seats, designed for friends, sisters and absolute first-timers. The Mom & Me Workshop is a once-a-quarter intimate session for a parent and child to paint side by side.
Every workshop is taught in person, in this studio, by me. Materials are included; experience is not required.
Exhibitions and Recognition
In August 2025, my painting Stillness in Motion was featured in the "Home, Heart, Heritage — 60 Years of Singapore" exhibition organised by LivingwithArt Singapore. The gallery described the work as capturing "how home is not just a place, but a feeling of calm and connection."

I regularly participate in art markets across Singapore through my creative studio, Halvi Collective, including the Arts Corner Market at NAFA Campus.
